Hi there, I’m Dyani. AKA The Rolling Artisan. (well maybe not quite rolling yet). I’m an artist, bookbinder, treehugger, animal lover and future full-time nomad.

In 2011, after seven years at university, and another eleven years working long, stressful hours in various hospital jobs, I finally worked up the courage to ditch my medical career and follow my dream of living a more creative, soul-satisfying life. My family and colleagues thought I was mad, but I’m a huge believer in the importance of being true to yourself and following your heart, because life is way too short to be wasted by regret.

My handmade stationery business, Little Deer Studio, is the realisation of that dream. It’s been my full time gig since 2016 and while it hasn’t been an easy journey getting to this point, I have enjoyed facing the challenges and watching it grow, and not once have I regretted my decision. Not even for a second.

Since choosing this path, I am more content than I have ever been. I have gained an enormous sense of freedom and self-confidence, knowing that I can steer my own course and live the life I choose. I have come to embrace a simpler, less materialistic way of life, and as a result, I feel more connected to the environment and the world around me.

Now I’m chasing another dream – to embrace the gypsy soul within me and become a full-time nomad, living and working on the road, travelling Australia in a converted bus!

It will take me a little while to get there, but I’ve come to realise that the journey towards a goal can be just as exciting and fulfilling as finally reaching it.

I wanted to start this blog as a record of that journey. An honest record. The downs as well as the ups. The failures as well as the successes. If you’re looking for a website full of instagram-worthy photos or superbly-produced cinematic videos with epic soundtracks then you’re in the wrong place. But if you are curious to know whether a single chick in her forties, with no experience driving heavy vehicles, bugger all knowledge of how diesel engines work (or any engines for that matter!) and no building experience whatsoever, can successfully turn an old bus into a comfortable home and live happily on the road while still making a living as an artist, then stick around and we’ll find out together!

And who knows, perhaps others will find some of what I share here useful in some way. If telling my story inspires others to follow their own dreams, then I am happy to do so. Because everyone deserves to be happy. Everyone deserves to be able to be the person they want to be. To choose their own path.

We must not get so caught up in the whirlwind of modern society and others’ expectations that we become disconnected from what matters most to us.

We all need to embrace life and make the most of it while we can.
